Shanghai Slalom Open 2014

The oldest Chinese event, Shanghai Slalom Open (SSO), was held this year on the 8-10 August. During these days the best skaters from all around the world were competing in 5 disciplines: Classic Freestyle Slalom, Pair Freestyle Slalom, Battle Freestyle, Speed Slalom and Freestyle Slides. This event gathered the strongest skaters from the world rankings which made each victory a great achievement for the winners.

Women's Classic

Su Fei Qian (Chn, #1) got the victory, repeating her result from 2013. She made her smooth and artistic run very clean, with many stylish moves, landed all technical tricks and didn't kick any cone. Daria Kuznetsova (Rus, #2) took the second place, improving her results from last year (third place). She was not far away from the victory this year. She performed her fast and technical run great but kicked few cones and got less points from the judges. Klaudia Hartmanis (Pol, #3) finished on the third step of the podium with a dynamical and fast but less technical run. Meng Yun (Chn, #6) took the 4th place. Zoe Granjon (Fra, #5) finished 5th.

Men's Classic

Sergey Timchenko (Rus, #4) won the Classic competition. In the whole Shanghai Slalom Open history, he is the first skater from Europe to win this event in the Classic discipline. The young russian skater continues to improve from one competition to another. He showed a very high level, performing perfectly his very technical run, full of hard tricks and amazing combos, so easy, fast and smooth. The world number one, Yu Jin Seong (Kor) took the second place. His run was very fast and dynamical with many dancing moves but he missed some of his tricks and it was less technical than Sergey's performance. Alexandre Claris (Fra, #6) finished on the third step of the podium with his smooth and stylish run. He is the first French skater on the Classic podium in Shanghai. Lee Choong Goon (Kor, #7) took the 4th place. Alexandr Timchenko (Rus, #8) ended up 5th.

Junior Classic

Zhang Hao (Chn, #2) got the victory in the Men's Junior Classic category. He performed a smooth and musical run mixed with a lot of dancing moves and difficult tricks. Ye Hao Qin (Chn, #9) took the second place. Zhu Tian Le (Chn) ended up third. 

Guan Yu Xiang (Chn, #12) won the Women's Junior Classic and left behind of her Feng Hui (Chn, #8). Zhao Yi Ran (Chn, #35) finished 3rd.

Classic Slalom Pair

After their victory in Nanning 2011 and Namwon 2013, Koreans Yu Jin Seong and  Lee Choong Goon won the Pair Freestyle contest in Shanghai. They showed a high level mix of artistic and technic and made a great show with their run. The junior skaters, Zeng Chen Yu and Gu Kun Qi from China took the second place and proved that they are ready to be the future best pair. Klaudia Hartmanis and Michal Sulinowski from Poland, the only team from Europe, ended up on the third place of the podium.

Women’s Freestyle Battle

Daria Kuznetsova (Rus, #2) won the Battle final against Su Fei Qian (Chn, #1). This is her first Battle victory in Asia. She had a more variety of the technical tricks. She made christie foot gun, heel day/night, heel seven, butterfly to toe shift almost for 20 cones, back heel seven and back toe foot gun. Su Fei Qian made good runs but she made the same tricks for the first and second attempts, changing only the wheel from heel to toe. Guan Yu Xiang (Chn, #12) took the third place. She showed the toe foot gun for all 120, made a transition from toe shift to toe day/night and toe seven for all 80. Klaudia Hartmanis (Pol, #3) ended up 4th. She made good tricks : back toe foot gun, made transititons from toe back to toe shift, cobra to toe shift and toe shift to toe chicken.

Men’s Freestyle Battle

The Classic winner, Sergey Timchenko (Rus, #4) got one more victory and took the first place in the Battle Final. He is the second European skater, after Igor Cheremetieff (Beijing, 2008) to win a Battle in China. He showed perfect clean runs with a huge variety of tricks : back toe foot gun for all 120, transition on toe from shift to chicken, front christie foot gun, transitions on heel, back toe christie and 3 times by 10 cones of toe seven as a last trick. Thw world champion, Ye Hao Qin (Chn, #9) took the second place. He made long and clear transitions on toe and back christie foot gun to front christie foot gun to toe shift as a last trick. Zhang Hao (Chn, #2) ended up third. He performed christie foot gun, a good variety of tricks on toe, combo from toe foot gun to toe spin, transition from toe shift to toe spin to front toe foot gun to back toe foot gun. His last trick was toe shift for 4 lines of 80. Alexandr Timchenko (Rus, #8) finished 4th with back toe foot gun, a combo from toe shift to toe seven, transitions on heel and toe seven for 3 lines of 80 as a last trick.

Speed Slalom Women

Wang Tzu Chien (Tpe, #3), who showed the best qualification time as well (4,806 sec) won the final against the Classic winner, Su Fei Qian (Chn, #23). With her second place, it is the best result so far in a main event for Su Fei Qian. This is the second victory in a row for the World Champion, Wang Tzu Chien, in Shanghai. Cristina Rotunno (Ita, #5) won the small final in front of Yang Jhih Chi (Tpe, #56) to take the third place.

Speed Slalom Men

Simone Nai Oleari (Ita, #2) won the Shanghai Slalom Open for the first time in his career, winning against the current world number one, Guo Fang (Chn), who just took his first place in the world ranking few days before SSO. A newcomer, Cheng Ping Chen from Taipei showed a great result, taking the third place for his first participation in a main event. Zheng Jia Ming (Chn) ended up fourth.

Junior Speed Slalom

In the Junior Men category, Pan Yu Shuo (Chn, #78), who showed the best qualification time (4,315 sec), won the final in front of Anson Chan (Hkg, #71). Ma Pak Hong (Hkg, #72) won the consolation final against Chen Yu Chi (Tpe).

Lo Pe Yu (Tpe, #80) made the best time in the qualification (4,683 sec) among all women categories and won the final in front of Lu Qian Qian (Chn, #38). Guan Yu Xiang (Chn, #41) won the consolation final against Feng Hui (Chn, #31).

In the men's category, The world number one, Huang Hai Yang (Chn) won the Slides final. Lin Yao (Chn, #28) took the second place. Shen Yong Fei (Chn, #105) finished right after him. Chung Yung Tzu (Tpe, #8) ended up fourth. 

 
From the girls, a newcomer, Yang Yixuan from China made a great result for her first WSS main competition, winning the final against Tan Li Wen Audrey (Mas, #48). Miriam Fatmi García (Esp, #26) took the third place.
