BattleUK IV: Roll Britannia


A World Slalom Series "Two Cone" Event.


Event 

This year, for the first time, the UK champion will not be crowned at BattleUK. The UK champion will be the skater with the best results in three of the four competitions will make up the UK slalom series (more details here):

BattleUK IV: Roll Britannia, Nottingham, 27th & 28th March
Eastbourne Extreme, Eastbourne, 17th & 18th July
SkateLondon, London, 14th & 15th August
Xtreme in the City, London, 23rd & 24th October

BattleUK has been moved to earlier in the year, due to a clash with a new slalom event at the Excel exhibition centre in London. BattleUK IV: "Roll Britannia" will therefore take place on the 27th and 28th of March 2010. And that's not the only change. BattleUK IV will, for the first time, take place, not in The Victoria Leisure Centre, but in the newer and larger Sports Hall on The University of Nottingham's Sutton Bonnington campus.

BattleUK IV is open to all slalomers from the UK and overseas: there will be full international Mens and Womens battle competitions, plus a rookie battle.



Disciplines 

Freestyle slalom: Style slalom, battle format. Groups of 3-5 skaters perform short runs of tricks in turn, with the top two progressing to the next round. There will be separate mens, womens and rookie categories.

Note: If you're a male with a WSS ranking of 200 or under, you will be entered in the Mens competition. If you're a female with a WSS ranking of 100 or under, you will be entered in the Womens competition. If your WSS ranking is greater than 200 (100 if female) than you can choose to enter either the mixed rookie competition, or main competition for your gender. Find out your current WSS World ranking here.


Speed slalom: Fastest through the line of 20 cones (80cm spacing) wins.

Freejump: The skater who clears the highest bar will win, with three attempts allowed per height. Ground level jump bar: no kicker ramp.



Schedule 

Here's the schedule for the event:

Saturday: 

12:00 - 12:30 = Organisers arrive and set up
12:30 - 14:30 = SkateFreestyle Slalom Class with Naomi
14:30 - 15:30 = Speed Slalom Competition
15:30 - 16:30 = Freejump Competition
16:30 - 17:00 = Tidy up

19:00 - 23:00 = Head to The Vic in Beeston for food and drink.


Sunday: 

Remember that THE CLOCKS GO FORWARD early Sunday morning! We do not have time to wait for people who are late!

09:00 - 09:30 = Organisers arrive and set up
09:30 - 11:30 = SkateFreestyle Slalom Class with Naomi
11:30 - 12:30 = Rookie Freestyle Slalom Battle
12:30 - 13:00 = Break for Lunch (Packed lunch provided for competitors)
13:00 - 14:30 = Womens Freestyle Slalom Battle
14:30 - 16:30 = Mens Freestyle Slalom Battle
16:30 - 17:00 = Tidy up

NOTE: If you're not attending Naomi's slalom class then you please do not arrive at the venue before 2pm Saturday and 11am Sunday. 



Travel to Nottingham 

By rail: Head to Nottingham or Beeston train station. Direct trains run from St Pancras in London.

By bus: National Express runs to Nottingham from various locations in London from £10 return.

By road: Exit junction 25 of the M1.



Directions to the venue 

There is a free University hopper bus that runs between various points on campus and in Nottingham to Sutton Bonnington, see this timetable. Be aware that the hopper buses tend to stick only fairly loosely to this schedule, so please arrive at your chosen bus stop in plenty of time.

However, as the competition venue is out of town anyway, hotels in Beeston may work out a little cheaper and will still be close to: the departure point of the hopper bus to the venue, the Beeston train station and The Vic.
